Hernia Surgery Punjab
Hernia occurring at or near the belly button
An umbilical hernia occurs when tissue bulges through an opening in the abdominal muscles near the belly button (navel). This condition is particularly common in infants but can also affect adults, especially those who are overweight, have had multiple pregnancies, or have persistent abdominal pressure.
In infants, umbilical hernias often close on their own by age 1 or 2. However, in adults, umbilical hernias typically do not resolve without surgical intervention and may worsen over time.
Umbilical hernia repair is performed laparoscopically. The procedure involves reducing the herniated tissue, closing the defect, and reinforcing with mesh if needed. Recovery is quick with most patients returning to normal activities within 1-2 weeks.
